Where I get my inspiration from in animation
Yes, this entry is basically going to be hagiographic. But hagiography for art and artists is allowed right? If you love them? I don’t care what you think, it’s happening. I ‘ve been thinking, for the last few days, about the work that inspires me the most. And granted most of it isn’t from animation but I take a lot of cues from animated work too. And often in ways I do not expect. Or at least, ways that are not immediately apparent.
I want to begin with Akira. What can I say about it that hasn’t already been said. If you haven’t seen it, do. I’m currently watching this cartoon network show, Common Side Effects. I’m understanding that there are many ways to do weird and take advantage of the full possibility range that animation provides. Speaking of weird, I must mention two of my weird favourites, Regular Show and pretty much all of David Lynch’s animated work. It is all so titanic. Check it out.
