HOW WE BROUGHT THE SAMOS PEACE TREATY TO LIFE WITH AI

We recently completed a short documentary centered on an often overlooked piece of history, the Samos Peace Treaty. The fact that we created the whole animation utilizing AI tools  makes the project more exciting. We were drawn to the story of the Samos Peace Treaty because of it’s historical significance and untapped narrative potential. It’s the kind of event that might be mentioned only in passing, but behind the dates and names lies a complicated tale of diplomacy, cultural tension, and human decision-making. We wanted to bring that event to life and that included creating a script that combined historical truth with dramatic narrative, giving life to individuals who once affected real events.

Using AI tools enabled us to simplify the production in ways that felt innovative. We swiftly generated character designs, used AI-assisted voiceovers for narration and dialogue, and used AI animation software to handle motion. It wasn’t about replacing creativity, it was about speeding the process while maintaining the vision. We nevertheless spent a lot of time fine-tuning the appearance and feel of each scene, carefully directing the AI to generate outcomes that were both visually attractive and historically accurate. Of course, working with AI presented its own set of challenges. It’s not a magic button. There were times when things didn’t seem quite right, and we had to rework, and adjust until it felt natural. That part was crucial to us. We wanted the finished picture to feel alive and engaging and not something impersonal. Animation is a craft, and even with AI in the mix, that human touch still defines the final product. The final result is something we are proud of and we are thrilled to share it with you.
